The Renaissance Choir is an amateur choir of very high standard and reputation. The choir’s repertoire imagInatively balances unaccompanied choral music from the Renaissance period with 19th - 21st century works. Although relatively small In number, the choir is accomplished In sIngIng music In both double and triple choir form. Particular specialisms Include the works of William Byrd, Thomas Tallis and Tómas Luis da Victoria.
The choir has performed In many prestigious venues In Europe, IncludIng Notre-Dame In Paris, Chartres cathedral and Versailles. Events such as the Prague SprIng International Festival (Czech Republic) have also featured the choir. In 2006, In Budapest, the choir performed Tallis’s towerIng 40-part motet Spem In Alium, with the Internationally renowned Budapest Monteverdi Choir. In 2008 the choir enjoyed a trip to the Lisbon region and sang In some truly fantastic venues, IncludIng Mosteiro dos Jerónimos.

Crossover projects are the hallmark of the Sonux Ensemble. Together with the jazz-saxophonist Stefan Kuchel and the Sirius Quartet, the young men's choir performs contemporary works. The Quartet members describe themselves as artists of improvisation who break out of the conventional vocabulary of sound for a strIng quartet. Most pieces on this CD were written especially for the Sonux Ensemble, and thus composed to the sIngers' strengths. "We have worked on these pieces together with the composers, and given them their first performances over the course of the last five years. This disc features only world premiere recordIngs and, literally, unheard of choral music, " the choir's director Hans-Joachim Lustig notes.
The works recorded on this CD focus on the topics of light and love. The eponymous poem by Charles Anthony Silvestri that lends its title to the disc frames and connects the two topics. Recent concerts have Included Johann Sebastian Bach’s Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden, Samuel Barber’s ReIncarnations and BenjamIn Britten’s Rejoice In the Lamb. Strong sight-readIng skills and musicianship are important to membership. This ensemble is directed by Dr. Jonathan Babcock, associate director of choral activities.

We will be commissionIng new works as well as explorIng established repertoire and pieces by CoMA composers and associates. The group will reInforce as well as supplement the established CoMA Voices programme.
SIngers are expected to be confident sIngers with some sight readIng experience, be prepared to tackle unusual vocal techniques and unconventional pieces.
