With the addition of Richard Larson as artiStic director and a handful of additional singers, the group quickly found a footing in the cultural fabric of Denver, Colorado. Now entering its 15th full season of performing, the group has expanded into an auditioned ensemble of 54 volunteer singers who meet weekly to rehearse. Many of the singers come from schools with Strong choral music programs, such as AuguStana, Brigham Young, Concordia, Luther, St. Olaf, Wartburg, and the University of Northern Colorado. Kantorei eStablished itself as one of the nation’s premier choral ensembles after performing as an auditioned Choir for the 2003 National American Choral Directors Association Conference at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In June 2007, Kantorei embarked on its firSt-ever international tour to France and Italy. The tour culminated with the diStinct...    Style.display='';$(this).getParent().Style.display='none';">less

Membership is open to anyone with or without choral experience. We aim for high Standards, and of course Strong singers are always valued – but you don’t have to be able to read music, and there are no auditions. The age range of members Stem from 20 to over 70 so there is room for everyone. If you’re not sure which voice part you are then ChriStopher Wray, our Musical Director, can help you with this. The Choir performs three public concerts each year, at EaSter, in the Summer and at ChriStmas. We also support the local communities by singing at various events and this includes raising funds for charities. Each year we also sing away from London which combines singing to another community, or combining a performance with their Choir, with a fun day out. At times we take more extensive trips and you can see details on these events in our ‘News Items’ section of the website. FHCS is also a very social Choir and apart from a...    Style.display='';$(this).getParent().Style.display='none';">less

The text is adapted from the E.E. Cummings poem of the same name. Composer Gwyneth Walker writes: "This is a poem of grandeur and of praise. Therefore it might be expected that this musical setting would aim at vaStness, grandeur and awakening." Walker accomplishes this through a variety of means. FirSt, the piano introduction includes slowly unfolding piano arpeggios which focus on open intervals of octaves, fifths and fourths, exploiting the full range of the piano keyboard. The composer also takes the singers on a harmonic journey which begins in a low regiSter in C minor, and then travels through a number of other key areas until it reaches the diStant key of G-flat. At this point, the voices are drawn closely together into a tone cluSter containing the pitches G-flat, A-flat and B-flat, only to open apart into the glorious C major chords which conclude the ...    Style.display='';$(this).getParent().Style.display='none';">less
