The text was written by Gerard, Fürst von und zu Rheinbergen in collaboration with Rheinbergen's Court Composer David Warin Solomons, who wrote the music. It is very grand and rousing music with just a little pomposity. The performance here is by the Budapest Scoring Choir under Péter Illenyi.

Mary Kay Geston, conductor. Lalla, a 14th century Sufi-mystic poet from the Kashmir region of India, believed strongly in the development of the self while reaching enlightenment. The metaphor of dancing while feeling free or naked exemplifies the beauty of empowerment and self-worth. This work uses influences of Classical Indian music and other vocal effects to allow Lalla’s message to come to life.

The Ensemble is currently fo...  moreVocal Ensemble GENTLEMEN SINGERS from Hradec Králové was established in 2003. It has become one of the most significant Czech music Ensembles during its history and it is desired not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad. The Ensemble is currently formed by these singers: Jakub Kubín (countertenor), Martin Ptáček (tenor), Lukáš Merkl (tenor), Radek Mach (tenor), Aleš Malý (baritone), Martin Struna (baritone), Richard Uhlíř (bass), and Václav Kovář (bass). The repertoire of the Ensemble includes the periods from the Gregorian chant up till arrangements of modern popular melodies while the most important part is formed by the vocal compositions of the 19th and 20th century, Czech, Moravian and Slovak folk songs and contemporary compositions which were often arranged or even composed directly for the Gentlemen Singers by composers with whom the Ensemble cooperates closely (e.g. Jan Vičar, Jaroslav Krček, Jan Jirásek, Stephen Hatfield, or Mark van Platen). Recorded live on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at All Saints Episcopal Church in fort Lauderdale, Florida. Performed by the Lyric Choir Ensemble of the Girl Choir of South Florida. Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson, Accompanist: Susan Dodd. Leonard Bernstein was on his honeymoon in 1951 when he began composing his one-act opera "Trouble in Tahiti", a candid portrait of the troubled marriage of a young suburban couple. This aria is sung by Dinah during Scene 3 where, in her analyst's office, she is seeking counseling - unbeknownst to her husband Sam - in an attempt to repair their deteriorating marriage. Dinah recalls a dream of an untended garden choked with weeds. In the dream she hears a voice calling to her describing a beautiful garden, a place of love and harmony, which she tries desperately to find. Her dream ends before she can find it.  less
