It has become one of the most significant Czech music ensembles during its history and it is desired not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad. The ensemble is currently formed by these singers: Jakub Kubín (countertenor), Martin Ptáček (tenor), Lukáš Merkl (tenor), Radek Mach (tenor), Aleš Malý (baritone), Martin Struna (baritone), Richard Uhlíř (bass), and Václav Kovář (bass). The repertoire of the ensemble includes the periods from the Gregorian chant up till arrangements of modern popular melodies while the most important part is formed by the vocal compositions of the 19th and 20th century, Czech, Moravian and Slovak folk songs and contemporary compositions which were often arranged or even composed directly for the Gentlemen Singers by composers with whom the ensemble cooperates closely (e.g. Jan Vičar, Jaroslav Krček, Jan Jirásek, Stephen Hatfield, or Mark van Platen). In their first four years, this volunteer group has grown from four to 15 singers, learned 42 songs, released their first CD, racked up 51 performances for 32 organizations in seven counties across Tennessee, and produced a successful concert series which has attracted a combined 1000+ attendees from 38 cities in eight states across the USA. Their concert audiences have ranged in size from a few hundred to 4000 people. As a choir, the Consort has a wide repertoire, ranging from Early Church music through to Folksongs and modern works. Each programme is different and reflects the wishes of those for whom we perform. Since the Consort’s formation it has raised, through its choral concerts, many thousands of pounds for a wide range of charities and churches. It is always glad to consider invitations from such organisations. Its services are given voluntarily, although a contribution towards its music library and other expenses is gratefully received. We would love to come and sing to you and help you raise much needed funds for your cause.
