However, music can be made available for those who want it. W...  moreBishop Road Community Choir is open to all in the local community. We are a mixed, non-audition choir. All songs are taught by ear and we don’t expect anyone to learn the words off by heart. However, music can be made available for those who want it. We sing a range of different songs, including pop, gospel, world music and classical. We mainly sing songs with piano accompaniment, provided by our famous pianist, Geoff. We hold our own annual concert, and we are often invited to sing at other local events such as the local MayFest. Our members come along for “enjoyment, friendship and satisfaction as well as singing with a group of like-minded people”. Singing is reputed to release endorphins in the brain, and we’ve certainly noticed amongst us a sense of well-being following rehearsals and in particular, concerts. We are a very sociable bunch and often meet for a drink at the Chimp House on Gloucester Road following our rehearsal on Thursday evenings. During this time the choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally they have received 10 golden diplomas on provincial level for the “ATKV Applous” competition in the category for advanced, mixed high school choirs; and 7 golden diplomas on national level for the same competition. They were the only choir in the history of the Director’s trophy who won the award 8 times and they were also the first to do so in all three categories: mixed- (5 times), boys’- (twice) and girls’ choir (once). They have also received double gold at the Gauteng Eisteddfod, A and A+ awards at the Pretoria Beeld Eisteddfod and first place in their category in more than one local competition. They have annual workshops and master classes with well-known and respected conductors (both locally and internationally) and have hosted many international choirs and groups. Under the direction of Diana Clark since 2009, Children’s Choir consists of caring young musicians from diverse cultural heritages, ages 9-15 years old. Storytelling, joy of singing, connection and flexibility of performance are the core values of this group. The choir also loves to work with guest conductors and share with other choirs. They have recently been guest singers with Vancouver Chamber Choir. In the past years, Chamber choir Orfej has received a number of awards, which places them among the more prominent Slovenian choirs. Orfej has proven its high level of vocal performance in April 2010 at the prestigious Slovene national choir competition ‘Naša Pesem’ (i. e. ‘Our Song’). The choir scored 93 points, received the gold award, and the second prize in the category ‘mixed choirs’.

It has since grown from a small choral group to a self-run community choir with a wide ranging repertoire, performing music that bridges cultures and unites faith traditions. The project won an ABC award in December 2009 at the Royal Society for the Arts and was cited by the judging panel as ”an excellent, innovative way of bringing people together through a shared passion for music”. Koruso! host performances at least twice a year and to date has performed at a variety of venues across its home borough and beyond. Members come from all walks of life and all across Southwark. We enjoy singing together every Thursday from 6:30pm at Oliver Goldsmiths Primary School, Peckham Road. New members are always welcome - particularly tenors and basses.  less

Members of the choir come from the multi-cultured community around ...  moreAbout the BAVE CHAMBER CHOIR The BAVE CHAMBER CHOIR is focus group formed out of the BAVE Community Choir in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia in 2017 to participate in music festivals and events. Members of the choir come from the multi-cultured community around the Klang Valley. The BAVE Chamber choir is part of the BAVE Community Choir. BAVE Community Choir was launched in 2015 as part of BTSM’s outreach to the community. Both the Community and Chamber choirs are part of the Broadway Theater Society Malaysia’s activity groups. Members of the Chamber Choir will have to first be part of the main Community Choir. The BTSM is a non-profit organization, formed to promote performing arts in Malaysia by the community, for the community. BAVE maintains a strong policy that “Everyone Can Sing”. The tagline for BAVE is “NO AUDITION & NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED”. The choir is non-auditioned but members who join will have to commit to rehearsals and group activities. Flame Trees are known as 鳳凰木 (Phoenix Trees) in Chinese. Phoenix Singers, Hong Kong is a newly established chorus, musically directed by Celia Leung. The chorus meets once a week and share the joy of singing. The Chorus presented concerts at various venues around HK since its inception. We also make it our mission to support local charities at each term.
