Carlow Choral Society is a mixed-voice choir of over 60 members (SATB) directed by Blánaid Murphy, Musical Director of the Palestrina Choir, St. Mary’s ProCathedral Girls Choir, Dublin Bach Singers and RIAM Choir. We Annually we perform two large concerts with professional soloists and orchestral musicians in Carlow, ‘Glory of Christmas’ in the National Concert Hall and annual ‘Christmas Crackers’ family concert in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre, Carlow.
We have a remarkable repertoire of many choral works such as Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St. Mathews & St. John Passion, Verdi’s Requiem, Haydn’s The Creation & Seasons, Brahm’s Requiem & many more. We sing at home & abroad. In November 2011 the choir recorded a Christmas CD. New members are welcome. We rehearse in St. Patrick’s College, Carlow Monday nights from 7.45-10pm. Numerous participations, diplomas and awards at international choral competitions and festivals throughout Europe have been recorded in the choir’s artistic biography. It has issued three CDs, a documentary „The Journey” and a book.The choir has been honoured with two prestigious Bulgarian awards in the field of the musical art: The Golden Lyre of the Union of the Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers and the Golden Plaque of the Bulgarian ChoralUnion – both of them for its creative activity and contribution to the Bulgarian musical culture.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate what it is to come together as a group of women, and sing.
‘Here in my Heart’ by Sarah Quartel is a favourite piece for many Singers in the choir: it speaks about the beauty of nature and the joy of making music. We last performed this piece in October 2020 at a concert that took place between two national lockdowns, when it felt especially poignant. We hope you enjoy it.
