They have been featured ...  moreThe 1607 Ensemble is a closely-knit Vocal quartet that was selected as young artists at the Brighton Early Music Festival in 2007, and has gone on to perform in festivals throughout the UK and internationally in Utrecht and Capri. They have been featured on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ and ‘The Early Music Show.’ The members of the 1607 Ensemble hail from Britain, Canada, and the US, and their diverse musical backgrounds and affinity for a variety of musical styles are evident in their music. Equally at home singing Renaissance music and jazz, they also write their own compositions and arrangements, often combining old and new styles in music tailored to their unique Vocal colours. One of the Ensemble’s long-time interests has been the poetry of Clément Marot in 16th-century chanson. Founded in February 2008 in order to bring polished intimate and historical choral music to local communities, VAE regularly performs in Northern CA and has toured abroad in Ireland. Richly themed programs celebrate the elegant beauty of Renaissance motets, tonal color of modern works, and exotic flavor of music from other cultures. VAE relies exclusively on donations at concerts to defray costs. Singers volunteer their time and talents but are not required to pay dues.  less
