The Choir was founded in 1986 by Mr. Albert Morland who has since held the reigns in his very capable conducting hands. During this time the Choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally they have received 10 golden diplomas on provincial level for t...  moreThe Choir was founded in 1986 by Mr. Albert Morland who has since held the reigns in his very capable conducting hands. During this time the Choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally they have received 10 golden diplomas on provincial level for the “ATKV Applous” competition in the category for advanced, mixed high school Choirs; and 7 golden diplomas on national level for the same competition. They were the only Choir in the history of the Director’s trophy who won the award 8 times and they were also the first to do so in all three categories: mixed- (5 times), boys’- (twice) and Girls’ Choir (once). They have also received double gold at the Gauteng Eisteddfod, A and A+ awards at the Pretoria Beeld Eisteddfod and first place in their category in more than one local competition. They have annual workshops and master classes with well-known and respected conductors (both locally and internationally) and have hosted many international Choirs and groups. The FGC "Golden Girls are proud of being the founder members of this young up and coming Girls Choir in the Western Cape. FGC is a High School Choir that is comprised of Girls between the ages of 13 and 18.

Canterbury Girls Choir is a non selective Choir for Girls aged between 7 and 18 from schools in the Canterbury area. The Girls perform on a regular basis across Kent and regularly travel to Northern France for concert performances.

We are Girls who become like family through our shared passion for music. Each member auditioned by our Choirmaster, Andre van der Merwe, and attends Stellenberg High School. Our repertoire consists mainly of Gospel, Acapella, Classical, Folk/Ethnic, and Sacred music. We compete in various national and international competitions and strive to share beautiful music with the world while being cultural ambassadors for our country. We provide a valuable resource to our local community through assorted outreach performances and we participate in prestigious domestic and international music festivals. From its beginning it has been affiliated with ZAMEK Culture Centre. Experienced and respected pedagogues-musicians look after the musical development of the Girls and artistic program. The Choir is conducted and creatively inspired by its Artistic Director and Conductor Alicja Szeluga, an educator and choral music aficionado. The Vocal Coach Marzena Michałowska, and accompanying pianist Czesław Łynsza, as well as percussionist Beata Polak complete the musical team. The SKOWRONKI Girls Choir also has programs for younger groups. The ensemble is consists of 140 Girls aged between 6 and 22.
