The objective was to bring about musical performances...  moreThe LAZ EKWUEME CHORALE was founded in October 1974 with a view to getting together in a small choir the best available and professionally trained singers in Lagos, the then Federal Capital of Nigeria. The objective was to bring about musical performances (of choral works by foreign and Nigerian composers) of sufficiently high standard for international consumption, within the limitations of national resources. The CHORALE which has grown in size to over 100 singers has given numerous concerts in Lagos and other towns in Nigeria, including Aba, Abakaliki, Abeokuta, Abuja, Benin, Calabar, Eket, Enugu, Ibadan, Ife, Nsit Atai, Oko, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Umuahia and Uyo. It has performed many times on Radio and Television and has featured on many State, National and International functions. It was the nucleus of the Nigerian National choir for FESTAC 77. Rory Wilson, an experienced choral conductor from Edinburgh, has been appointed and has begun work with the choir towards our first concert under his direction in November 2018, based around the Fire Songs of Morten Lauridsen, pairing his settings with settings of the same or similar texts by Renaissance composers.

We aim to give two or three concerts each year, plus a Christmas concert of music and readings. We are based in the village of Rolleston-on-Dove near Burton-upon-Trent, and draw our members – numbering around 50 at present - from a wide area of East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire. The group me...  moreMind & Soul is a community choir based at the Maudsley Hospital in South London, which is open to SLAM service users/staff, their friends and carers, local people and anyone who accesses mental health services, as well as those who don't. The group meets every Wednesday evening in the gym at the Maudsley Hospital, 115 Denmark Hill SE5 8AZ between 6-7pm. Our patron is the wonderful Mary King.
