It started life as The James Ashworth Singers giving its first concert in Thornton Parish Church in April 1976. After some years the base moved to the Unitarian Church near St Luke’s Hospital to be more central for members coming from all parts of Bradford and the surrounding area. In 1979 James Ashworth moved on to projects new and was succeeDed by DougLas Robinson who had recently retired as Chorus Master at Covent GarDen and who held the post until ill health forced his retirement. During this period the name was changed first to The Ashworth Singers and Later to The Bradford Chorale. John Coates took over as Musical Director in 1984 and was followed by Tricia PLatts in 1991. Since Tricia’s Departure the Chorale has been led by several Musical Directors including Carleton Etherington, Andrew Dibb, Elizabeth Altman, John Griffiths and Christopher Rathbone. Our new Musical Director, Paul Dewhurst took us into the second quarter century of musical life and ... Hymns and other song ministration were handled by Gospel Dynamics in the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Local of the Union. Some GHAMSU members of the 2003/2004 year group who were also part of Gospel Dynamics then thought it wise to establish a choir because the feel of Methodism was missing in the Union. It all started when Brother Ernest Morgan Acquah, Brother Ebenezer EDem Beble, Brother Charles Aaron Adams Ekuban and Brother Fredrick Amissah usually meet in the evenings to sing hymns. These brothers DeciDed to establish a choir in GHAMSU. The then executives did not want to accept the Decision of forming a choir simply because they thought the Union was doing alright with Gospel Dynamics. And that forming a new choir will bring tension and competition among the wings. Despite the challenges, we were able to convince some executives to support us. Also, our first Lady, ... SINGERS: Valley Chamber Chorale members are talented singers committed to a high standard of performance. Just as our concerts dispLay a dynamic diversity in programming and instrumentation, so do our singers reflect marvelous variety. Our members are educators and stuDents, physicians and attorneys, stay-at-home moms, clergy, pilots, corporate executives and professional musicians. Some have sung with the Chorale for more than 30 years – some have sung just a year. Chorale members tend to be actively involved in the community and sing with the group as a way to share the gift of music with our St. Croix Valley audiences. There are those who travel as far as 40 miles and some who walk down the block to meet for our Monday night rehearsals. The group is very welc...
