During this time the choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally they have received 10 golden diplomas on provincial level for the “ATKV Applous” competition in the category for advanced, mixed high school choirs; and 7 golden diplomas on national level for the same competition. they were the only choir in the history of the Director’s trophy who won the award 8 times and they were also the first to do so in all three categories: mixed- (5 times), boys’- (twice) and girls’ choir (once). they have also received double gold at the Gauteng Eisteddfod, A and A+ awards at the Pretoria Beeld Eisteddfod and first place in their category in more than one local competition. they have annual workshops and master classes with well-known and respected conductors (both locally and internationally) and have hosted many international choirs and groups. they regularly tour different parts of South Afric... less

Each member auditioned by our choirmaster, Andre van der Merwe, and attends S... moreStellenberg Girls' Choir (SMK) is a high school choir comprised of girls between the ages of 13 and 18. We are girls who become like family through our shared passion for music. Each member auditioned by our choirmaster, Andre van der Merwe, and attends Stellenberg High School. Our repertoire consists mainly of Gospel, Acapella, Classical, Folk/Ethnic, and Sacred music.
We compete in various national and international competitions and strive to share beautiful music with the world while being cultural ambassadors for our country.
Achievements:
- Overall winners of the "ATKV Nasionale Applous-kompetisie" for 12 times (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011).
- In 2002 they won the category for Women's Choirs at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales.
- In 2004, we were awarded the highest percentage for any choir at the World Choir Olympics.
- In 2006 we won the much acclaimed Choir of the World trophy in Llangollen Wales.
